Climate Action Plan and Sustainability

At St Peter's CofE Primary Academy Mansfield, we are deeply committed to nurturing not only our pupils’ academic growth but also their responsibility towards the world we share. As a Church of England academy, we recognise the vital role we play in caring for God’s creation. This page outlines our Climate Action Plan and our ongoing commitment to sustainability, reflecting our vision: Loving, living and learning with Jesus.

As a flagship school for the Nottinghamshire diocese, St Peter’s is proud to lead by example in embedding sustainability into every aspect of school life. We understand the importance of protecting God’s planet for future generations, and this responsibility is central to our ethos and curriculum.

  • Sustainability Curriculum through Forest School
Our extensive school grounds provide the perfect setting for our Forest School programme, where pupils engage directly with nature. This hands-on approach allows children to learn about ecosystems, conservation, and the importance of sustainable living in a meaningful and memorable way.
Through Forest School activities, pupils develop a sense of stewardship and respect for the environment, embodying our school values of love and care for all creation.

  • Protecting God’s Planet
The Bible teaches us that the Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it (Psalm 24:1). This scripture inspires our commitment to sustainability, reinforcing the belief that caring for the environment is a sacred duty. By fostering this spiritual connection, we encourage pupils and families to consider their impact on the planet and take positive actions to safeguard it.

Our vision—Loving, living and learning with Jesus—is reflected in our approach to climate action:

  • Loving: We teach pupils to love and respect the natural world, understanding it as a precious gift.
  • Living: We embed sustainable practises in daily school life, from waste reduction to energy conservation, ensuring pupils experience living out these values practically.
  • Learning: Our curriculum is enriched with sustainability themes, equipping pupils with knowledge and skills to be environmentally conscious citizens.
