Education, Health and Care Plans

Education, health and care plans (EHCPs) are the final step along the graduated response. They are used for children who have severe and complex needs which cannot be met within a mainstream school setting. EHCPs are used where we feel a child may benefit from a place in specialist provision, but this place is not guaranteed for all children who have an EHCP.

For a child to fit the criteria for an EHCP they should have the following:

Significant and complex special educational needs in more than one area of need.

External involvement from professionals,

Additional funding secured by the school for the additional support provided to the child,

A significant difficulty which means they cannot access the mainstream class teaching.
