Welcome to the general information page for Red Apples (Reception / F2 Class)

The school day starts at 9:40 and Reception children enter the classroom from the main playground. The day ends at 3:15.

Every day we have a phonics lesson and maths lesson. We aslo have several stories each day. A lot of learning in the Early Years is done through play which we call 'COOL LEARNING'. The children are free to explore the classroom and follow their own interests. The resources in the classroom are continually available to the children and are enhanced to further develop their learning.

Phonics

We follow a Phonics programme for reading and writing called Read Write Inc. The children learn letter sounds and the sounds in words, then progress to be able to read and write simple words, tricky red words (words that can't be sounded out) and eventually read sentences in stories and and write their own sentences. Phonics is taught every morning.

Maths

The children learn mathematical skills in a set sequence to be able to build their knowldge and understanding of number, numerical pattern and space shape and measure.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on well known stories taken from Pie Corbetts reading spine. This allows us to encourage a love reading and stories. We create story maps so that our children are able to tell a story in their own words and know stories by heart. Our curriculum is flexible to include the interests and fascinations of the children, so that school is an exciting place to learn. Please see the Longterm Curriculum Overview link below

Wellie Wednesday

Every Wednesday we go out side to our woodland area the Traingle of Land. Please remember to bring a named pair of wellingtons to school on Wednesdays and wear jogging bottoms or leggings to go under our waterproof trousers.

PE

PE is on Fridays, we have dedicated PE coaches that teach PE throughout school. Please come to school in PE kit and trainers on Fridays.

Collective Worship and RE

We have a weekly Celebration assembly with the rest of school on Fridays and in the Summer Term we join school for an addtional Collective Worship on Thursdays. We learn about the creation, the story of Christmas, Jesus' miracles and the story of Easter. We also read other bible stories.
