The graduated response is the name of the process whereby we follow an assess-plan-do-review cycle for children at school. All children are part of the graduated response, but most will remain at the first two stages while they are here. When we notice a child having difficulties with their learning then the amount of support will change depending on their needs. A diagnosis (for example autism) will not automatically mean a child has difficulties with their learning. Children may move up and down the stages of the graduated response while at school depending on their needs at the time.
